Making YOSSA

It’s a warm sticky day in Kerala, India. I’m sitting on a front porch with a group of international travellers sharing a cool fan. We’re introducing ourselves and broadening our world views. The man beside me is speaking to a lady from Japan. He mentions that he runs a creative hub and design studio out of Amsterdam. I lean in and ask – “would you be willing to help me find a name for my new enterprise?”

Fast forward two days. Same porch. Bart-Jan, the design hub founder, returns and announces he has my name. YOSSA. He’d been saving it for years.

We haven’t even discussed the business. He tells me what is most important is that the name be an extension of me. YOSSA – playful, strong, unique, feminine. What a compliment. Thank you, C-Roots.
